Metaverse and the golden egg…

There has been a lot of talk about the “Metaverse” during the last few weeks. It’s not a new term and no, Facebook (a.k.a. “Meta”) wasn’t the first to use it, but Facebook definitely made significant advancements in the arena.

I will first try to clear things up for those who are not sure what Metaverse is: Essentially, it is a merging of virtual, augmented, and physical reality that blurs the line between our online and offline interactions.

The interest in it has exploded since Zuckerberg announced that Facebook would change its name to Meta, and spend at least $10 billion on it but as I mentioned, Facebook is neither the first nor the only platform people can interact with: Sandbox VR, Mirandus and Decentraland are some of the platforms people can interact with.

The metaverse has already begun to spark new business ventures in this digital space as people increasingly place their bets on a future embedded in it.

In the futuristic Metaverse, Microsoft will be among the most interesting and impactful players. Only a few days after Facebook rebranded to Meta and became a “metaverse company,” Microsoft revealed its own metaverse plans. Starting in early 2022, Microsoft wants to offer “Mesh for Teams.”

The new version of Microsoft Teams will allow organizations to create “metaverses” to replicate offices and other shared spaces where people can collaborate on projects and share ideas.

Lastly, let’s not forget that Microsoft owns its own social network, which could help the Metaverse take off. Yes, I’m talking to you, LinkedInmy favorite social network is a golden egg.

It’s fascinating just to think of all the possibilities of LinkedIn on Metaverse. To name a few:

➡️ Professional networking
➡️ Company’s events and gatherings
➡️ Augmented learning experience
➡️ Job interviews
➡️ Expended business venture
➡️ Real-time translated interaction
➡️ New forms of marketing solutions
➡️ A marketplace of 3rd party complementary services

Obviously, as part of LinkedIn on Metaverse, data privacy, business ethics, security, and compliance will be a priority. In addition, performance, stability, and high availability will be mandated. It is these necessary requirements that will form the foundation of LinkedIn on Metaverse.

Food for thoughts… If Metaverse will replicate the physical world, I do not see any reason why social networks should have boundaries.

As you cross “worlds,” you may be asked to show your “Metaverse Passport” (hello business model!…) but the benefit to users will be enormous. As we cross between these worlds, we may wonder what our avatar’s identity and personality will be like when, for example, crossing from LinkedIn to Facebook…

We may “look,” “sound,” and “act” differently in today’s social networks, but how will that change if we have one, universal avatar?…🤔
